Roof Mounted Solar Arrays

Solar Cell Sales is fast reaching its goal this year of 1 million watts of solar electric installed for both residential and commercial use. This 3 kW residential system was installed on a new construction. The customer chose to locate his workshop facing east/west so that his roof would face directly south. He also designed the roof with a 7:12 pitch to take advantage of the maximum amount of solar rays. Since this was a new construction conduit was laid prior to installation of the solar system making the wire runs very easy. Although distance became a factor, so careful calculation was required to make sure the wire was of the correct guage, to avoid radical voltage drop.

Inverter

The Sunny Boy Inverter SWR2500USBD and both an AC and DC Disconnect switch was located on the South wall, inside the workshop. It was decided to add another AC disconnect at this location for safety, since again distance was a factor with regard to the meter main which cannot be seen from the workshop. All components were mounted on a backplate manufactured by Two Seas Metalworks. Once the workshop has been sheet rocked , it should give this system a really neat clean appearance.

Main Meter and Lockable AC Disconnect

Another AC Lockable disconnect was installed at the Meter Main. Since the main circuit breakers were located inside the house the AC disconnect was installed at the 200amp breaker. This allows PG&E complete access to all power to the house, both solar and utility, should the need arise.
